Let me start this post with an example of how nice old Anders treat young people who need some tips or directions in their own intellectual journey and hope to get a positive interaction going. So what happened here? What’s your excuse for answering an email in this way. Can you even be nice to others?

I’m not gonna defend my actions to you, but i will say this. The only answer the writer of that disastrous email gave to Corky was this : “Your friend is a genius!” .

So its ok for you to be mean, but if I do it, you start to cry! Does that make any sense to you…

Subject: Eric nevue

>Ma onkel says u have some ærfaring with makin games or design or

> something? M a rigght? >

> Sent from my Samsung Galaxy smartphone.

Re:Subject: Eric nevue

Something…Maybe?

But let me put it this way Brah!

Slik blir man smartere.

What’s next ?

Dette høres nok kynisk og kaldt ut, so be it!

Peace Out & gl hf

How to make enemies and alienate people!

January 25, 2018

Hello World… It is a new year..and this year I had some good plans and loads of motivation to do stuff. I even made a new years resolution plan, coviring all of my day. But some how, it all came crashing down after the 15. januar.  So how did this happen, what was my plan. Was it just to fuck with people, see their reactions, make people mad. No… I honestly think it was something else.

It always amazes me how fast people get piss angry and mad, how fast stuff get dragged out of context and placed on the battleground. Sometimes all it takes is one wrong word or image in my case, and the war is on! At this point everything else gets pushed out of focus and one se the dream and goals for 2018 disappear in the rearview mirror.

I don’t really think we see the goals disappear. You just wake up one day, and it’s gone. The war train usually comes on it’s own neural pathways fully prepped and ready for a fight!

Sure, your right, as always. But all this anger just because we get stuck trying to defend our viewpoint, our way of life. We are fighting an idealistic war, a war where we are sure that the other side is wong, and we are right.

Nothing new with what you are describing here!

Even so…Why? Why the fuck do I bother? Why use time, energy and social relations to fight a war that is not worth fighting? A war that one did not really understand before the gun were loaded and pointed towards your heart. And why, why is it so fucking hard to let the Bullshit go?Agree to speak to the other side, and se what is what?

Why is it always like that?

Because of your narcissistic ego and lack of good and stimulating friends! Not to mention a life without meaning, and the overbearing feeling of death angst closing in.

*Aouch*

Well that is the case, is it not? Does this not explain your sick ambition, your unrealistic goals and your need to prove yourself to somebody, anybody, the world? It is not like this is the first war you go into, only to get burned out and depressed some years later! Have you forgot all about www.majorfuckface.com and how this war almost made you commit suicide?

No, yes.. I remember that I did not end it, I got new inspiration and moved to Bergen to pursue a carriere and start my intellectual journey at the University!

Yes, and how is that working out for you? Successful yet? Found something to live for? Have you made the world a better place? Found someone to love, someone to care for?

This shit is getting dark, FAST!

No need to speak, these were all rhetorical questions. I know you have done shit! You are a fuckup, and everybody knows it!

Anders, Gonzo, U4IC or whatever “cool” name you choose to identify yourself with, it’s about time you face the fact and smell the burning fat.

YOU are a FAILURE! No need to identify with anything else!

This is a fact!

Now your just being mean :,(

*Buhu, im so hurt, you are mean*

Well.. I guess i make my point and tell my story later, not really in the mood to keep this conversation going

I’m having a really hard time trying to organize my thoughts and present it as an understandable overview of my Master Project Plan. That being said I just need to start writing something….And then I will try to gather all off my “findings” in some kind of presentable and understandable way. As far as life lessons go, I don’t i have any tips for the reader, not today. But I MUST get better at reflecting over how i’m wasting time planning how to do something.

Alrighty then so today’s life lesson is….

  1. Write drunk, edit sober.
  2. Write drunk, revise sober.

I guess that make sense, anything is better than nothing and I guess this tips is applicable towards being high as well. Yes, so let’s start this blogpost and get on with today’s subject. My Master Project Plan!

Was I mistaken in thinking that this blog was an opportunity to showcase some kind of academic insight or know-how?

No I guess not!

Well can you please try to show some traces of intellect in this blogpost than, and stop making fools out of us!

Sure, I’ll try!  No sorry. I’ll do it! there is no trying! #yodawisdom #insight #know-how

From my experience most creative processes requires one to find a way to master or at least balance opposing views, ideas, distractions, focus, urges, irrationality, chaos, instincts and so on. Part of the battle is taking control of the procrastination, reap its fruits, and make it work to your advantage. For me this requires a shifting focus of my feelings or energy in a Yin and Yang kind of way. We need both elements in creation — the Apollonian and the Dionysian, or spontaneity and restraint, emotion and discipline. I guess this is what makes it so fucking hard. All theses opposing ideas oscillating back and forth reinventing itself with new features and at the same time trying to merge as one comprehensible idea. It’s been said that “Creativity is the act of turning new and imaginative ideas into reality” but “If you have ideas but don’t act on them, you are imaginative but not creative.” There is a important distinction between the two and I have to become better at dragging the ideas down from the imaginative plane of existence and let it materialize into something real.
I’m not sure why but my mind keep dragging Aristotle’s four causes into this mess! And since i’m in writing mode now (not drunk or high though) trying to produce stuff, I’ll let it pas!

If you are gonna steal quotes you might as well give us the rest! “Creativity is the act of turning new and imaginative ideas into reality. Creativity is characterised by the ability to perceive the world in new ways, to find hidden patterns, to make connections between seemingly unrelated phenomena, and to generate solutions. Creativity involves two processes: thinking, then producing.”

The messy mechanism of creativity is in many ways similar to the chaos governing my own mind, and this is why It’s essential that I develop and deploy an useable strategy for getting shit done!

You think^^

Yes, and even if i seem to agree on what i just wrote i still feel like this blogpost is not achieving what it set out to do! It’s once again becoming kind of meta, talking about what i am doing or should be doing, instead of actually doing it.
Chill dude and give me a fucking brake! I just placed 30 000 NOK in a frozen bank account and created a norwegian corporation. This is doing something!
As i were saying.. Yesterday, (or the day before) I created a corporation named Trollscape AS and put up 30 000 NOK as its shared capital. This makes perfect sense as i’m slowly realizing that my master project and my ambitions are not on the same page. Actually I have a whole set of sub-selves with their own plans and schemes for finding ways to realizing them. But that’s also of topic, so more on that stuff later.

Say what now..? and please, by all means, feel free to make some fucking sense soon.

What i’m getting at, without drifting into half understood semiotic principles is this. If I want to describing my thoughts or ideas to you the reader, I should get you to understand what is going on inside my mind and how my own relationship between signs and the real-world is.

I disagree, but it’s important that your “something that stands for something in some capacity” is close to my own understanding of the same something.

Some years ago i was given the task of writing down what was on my mind so we could discuss it further. While struggling on this task I realized that it made no sense to just write down the words or concepts without its relations. I understood the question and concept of “on my mind” as something more than just words, symbols, or signs. I could not talk about how and why different thoughts were occupying my mind without thinking of their relations to each other as well as their real-world significations. The result is a metaphorical mindmap model of how I were thinking about this stuff and how that stuff were in relations to the rest of my mind stuff.

This whole exercise ended in a total failure and the main reason for this is that the other person had her own ideas or preconceived notions about what that answer would look like. In short, she wanted a list with some words on it. In later years i have found this model useful when trying to understand how randomness and unrelated concepts end up as one (in the center of focus.) And if the person viewing my model has some familiarity with Bohr’s obsolete atom model and how chemical bond are made, they could get more out of it.

Let’s cut to the core now!

For there to be any real understanding between me and you, we need to agree on our relationship between a sign and its real-world counterpart. I’m now getting close to the realm of digital literacy and the stuff of my first blog post, not where i was going with this!

I look at most kind of communication with others like a Lingua franca between two different minds who do not share a brain. When it comes to body language and chemical reactions to stimuli there is a difference,  but even here I have some opposing views and understandings.

Not the point you are trying to make…

True! When I was trying to describe my master project I got very confused by what the different names (and “train of thought”  represented as part of the specific “idea”) Why are you writing in past-tense? It’s not like we are done with this battle. It’s happening now, as i type, kind of. In my mind [Trolls in Norway] – [Troll i Norge] – [Trollspiracy] – [The fairy dust girl] – [Norwegian Folklore]- [Norse Mythology] – [Nature] – [Activities] – [Family fun]  have or share some attributes/elements (thinking back to my model now) with each other. They are all part of this “troll focus” that is occupying the center of my focused mind. Trying to bring all of the elements apart and identifying its “sub-particles” might be easy enough, my problem lies more in the “how to present this information to you the reader.” Or I think it does, and the reason for this is because I have not put all of my thoughts into a form that is easily transferred into words or signs. But who said i need to use words? I can go multimodal if that could help. But not sure it would, or maybe, did the mindmap image make any sense? Maybe I should go back to the realm of structuralism now that i have put words on some of the problems and its relations..

So, pretty please… with sugar on top, finish the fucking post! #inspiredbywhichmovie?

Before I started to write about my vision for [Troll i Norge] i were systematizing all the Troll stuff and elements and putting it up on the wall. In light of this I had some new revelations that made a huge impact on my project development, if not personal economy!

One of the reasons for all the chaos, is that i’m trying to create content to run on technology that I have not yet made. I’m also trying to mash all of the different [element] together, create something useful so I can win 1 million NOK, and at the same time call it my Master Project. This is not possible for me, and since most of the [elements] themself are a mash of other elements it all becomes a mess. This realization were really important as it took me back to a more ambitious version of my Master project/plan and at the same time opening up for something more. This whole idea was kind of illuminating as I have been trying to scale my Master Project down to something more achievable. This is still the point, but In an attempt to structuralize it all I feel the need to go one level up and this is where Trollscape AS comes in.

One of the ideas connected to [Troll i Norge]’s central node is the wanting to create a family activity set in nature. But why should this nature activity be forced to only become a part of a [Troll i Norge] app. Especially when the underlying structure and technology could easily been refitted to match/incorporate other kind of concepts. This became especially troubling when looking at the Explorer vs Troll Master(narrator) game dynamics. My solution to this is to create an top level application named Trollscape. This application has two main functions, it can be used to create small games and stories utilising the specs of your device. A camera and GPS might be used to create a small game of hot and cold, find these flowers, and so on. The main idea here is to make it easy for a local game master/narrator(parent) to create small tasks or games for the kids to complete in the style of a scavenger hunt or similar. The game or locative narrative might be put online or kept locally on the device, this is up to the game master. Trollscape’s other function is to run “scape-narratives” located at specific places in the physical and digital world, stories ready to be be explored with the help of a device.

My master project will then set out to describe and create some of this content and use technology to create a entertaining experience focused on trolls and their history. Trollscape + [Troll i Norge] transform a smart device into a magical tool which eventually tears down the walls protecting our reality from the magic of the world, [#Trollspiracy].

When taking the explorer on the road from [Troll i Norge] to [Trollspiracy] I will focus on how to tell “a story” and create a mock-blog and other online sources with crumbs of information telling parts of this story. A important point here is to explore storytelling techniques and at the same time draw focus towards the oral nature of folktales and its cultural heritage.

Btw: In Norwegian, Troll is not only the word for a magical creature It’s also closely related to Trolldom (magic and spells).

I should also mention that there is a distinction between the Master Project (1 year) and my Master Plan (2+ years)

That’s enough for tonight! Wrap it up and leave all the loose treads and questionable reasoning where it’s at.

Btw #theanswerispulpfiction! and the actors name is ?

September 27, 2017

Oh, crap…Way behind on my weekly blogging activity’s, and reading… my back-channeling on twitter or Slack has been non existing. Also, “The break” is temporary suspended, so much fishing the last two weeks, and some really good creative work on Troll App and Story Development. And loads of randomnez and some HF-Revy 2018 writing ideas.[meta:hours later (+days) this is not working out 22-27] So I’v Been trying to write..OK, not write,I now start the writing process.. So i been using a lot of time thinking about what to write for some time now, exhausting work,to much information. Also.. I found out about the assignment on Friday, but it was already due the day before. Not the best start for “a more reflective blog post that will introduce all of us to your interests and initial thoughts about your individual reseach to be incorporated into #ResNetSem”. Right until just now...like 10 minutes ago I thought this blog-post were gonna start out as a answer to this : First, please freewrite (loose free-form writing, notes, visualizations, outlining, mindmaps, doodling, etc.) on what your research work might be in the DIKULT program and this seminar course. And then my blog post would take a more reflective turn and end out in a part two:Second, please turn your freewriting attempt into a more reflective blog post that will introduce all of us to your interests and initial thoughts about your individual reseach to be incorporated into #ResNetSem.  If there is something about your freewriting process that you would like to share out, you can always take a picture of the ideas generated there and incorporate it into your reflective blog post.
So today I should write a reflective blog post, about my interests, and then thoughts I might have about research (which i do now as a master student) who could be incorporate into #ResNetSem” ?

My initial thoughs are: “Not sure i understand” and “Fuck, why did I not push harder to get the BCI project as my Master project?” When has a “No I don’t think so, It would be hard to do”  stopped me? I guess it was these sentences that sold me “The Troll thing is much better! A locative narrative surrounding Troll culture and Norwegian folklore.” Well, what’s done is done! Let us now put aside all annoyances surrounding bad AAC systems and promising BCI research! let’s instead turn a positive focus towards for my Master Project: Trolls In Norway.

No life lessons today?

Read trough a mission statement, task description etc. at least two times, read carefully, don’t run of doing stuff to soon. a.k.a. Don’t become the sucker in these kind of tests, read all the way trough (and understand), before starting anything.

I’v been working on this “Troll project” for many years now and it’s origins may be traced back to Christmas time of 2012. At that time the story and “ideas” were centered around Santa Claus, some magical “x-mas dust” and Norwegian gnomes. This correlation of ideas happen as a result of me working as a live action  “Freaky Christmas Sock” in a shopping mall. It was the worst, even if the application process was very entertaining and inspiring. So because of this useless shopping center failing to make a cute character and at the same time, failing to give it a back story, i made my own. In the months following this holiday i did much work on story ideas who sat out trying to explain strange and unbelievable facts of the Christmas. At one point I were writing about Santa and Jesus as superheroes of the ancient Middle East. [Spoiler alert] Judas is Santa and the world as we know it is based on a gigantic conspiracy. Exciting, I know, and then all of a sudden the story got buried, “add appropriate cliche”.

It is strange how I, you, me sometimes stay active for hours, days ,”working on” expanding or imagining new layers and version of some idea. All that energy “gushing” all over the place, no escaping it. At times, I even do some hard work, for a few hours, before it’s back to the fantasy reality where all versions and options is a possible solution to an idea.

At all times, part of this project has been in development. At least it feels like this, in one way or another. It’s origins might actually date back to the Christmas of ’88. Hard to be exact, but the need for entertainment and knowledge has always been strong interests of mine.

At this point, in this context, the “entertainment and knowledge” solutionary idea is represented by the names Trolls in Norway or Troll i Norge. This is basically just a Norwegian and English domain, but behind this two names is a huge pivoting of what the idea should become. Back in 2013 i had this webdesign class where me and 2 girls made an early beta of my Troll Portal idea. The coding sucks, so does the design, probably the text to.. Even so.. there are parts here which ends up as elements which I will continue to research (and collect) in my Master Project.

Alrighty then! So what is the master plan?

Yhea, about that…It’s kind of hard to explain it all, at this hour. May I please try again in a later blog post?

OK, you underachieving Chicken!

So I guess we’ll come back to the whole master plan and how my research can be used in relations to Networked Learning or some other researchy thing. Yes later,  but even so.. I can’t seem to make up my mind as what to write or in what way i should head.  I also need to read chapter 5 before class..And blog about it. And to be quite frank here, i am not even sure i get the whole #ResNetSem Twitter thingy. Well I kind of do, ish. But I still have some huge issues about the participatory side of it all.. I need to publish, I need to tweet,  i need to be active, i need to sleep, NOW!

Digital life lesson número uno:
Post something before the deadline, add content later, before the professor reads it! I did this on a digital exam, handed in the link on a friday at 1300 hour and finished up the content during the weekend. Great success, A+ on the project!
Life lesson número uno: People like to chill in the weekends, exploit this fact of life when you can! 16 hours until I am “fucked”, but now quiz!

Digital Mindfulness and other Distractions^^

Let start this wannabe academic blog by saying something smart, interesting and illuminating about Howard Rheingold’s  Net Smart.. Sounds like a good plan?

Ait, Yo let’s go then!

First of all, before you read the next passage I ask you to think about this one thing: How or what comes to mind when you hear the word literacy?

If you read this Rheingold’s point might be valid and if you don’t, this passages of words might prove a bigger point. Literacy is a skill, but in the introduction of Net Smart, Rheingold makes the point that it’s something more. To be literate in a digital world one needs the skill plus social competency in using that skill collaboratively. Let’s now imagine that you did not mark this paragraph and jumped straight to the next passage thinking I had spaced or tab-ed trough this space on the screen. My communication with you would not be successful, you’re ability to read and my ability to write to you would fail in a literacy sense, and maybe both of us would be classified as digital nonliterates?

Second  “what matters the most with present-day new literacies are not just the encoding and decoding skills and individual needs to know to join the community of literates but the ability to use those skills socially, in concert with others, in an effective way.” Meaning if you did not read the hidden text in the paragraph above but everybody else did, you would be an digital nonliterate, but not me!? What I’m getting at here is that literacy in a digital world is much more than semiotics and rhetorical virtues. To really master the five literacies that are in the process of changing our world, Rheingold say we need the know-how of “attention, participation, collaboration, the critical consumption of information (aka “crap detection”), and network smarts.” If we as a society fail at this task, “we could end up drowning ourselves in torrents of misinformation, disinformation, advertising, spam, porn, noise, and trivia”

That quite enough, Mr. Rheingold! My internal crap detector is making me dizzy, let’s jump ahead to attention and digital mindfulness.

TRANQUILO POR FAVOR!

In the last 50 years the idea of Zen and mindfulness has grown to be a part of the Western culture, so I guess it was about time that somebody pivot the concept towards our awareness and on screen attention.

Nothing wrong with that Mr. Rheingold, please tell me more!

First of all, or third if your being all Nazi about my sentence connectors, the most important step towards mindfulness, in any field, is being aware of what’s happening to your thinking. Or as the Zen guru Jon Kabat-Zinn puts it “the awareness that emerges through paying attention on purpose

If we want to gain control of our attention we need to be attentive!

As with all kind of training some is immeasurably more useful than none at all, and when it comes to mindfulness your breathing is a good place to start. Attentiveness starts with focus, start by focusing on your breathing and let it become a stepping stone towards  [ x in focus ]

Some people claim that one have to do something 13 times for it to become a habit, others claim it takes 21 days. How long it takes doesn’t really matter that much, the overall point is that if you start changing shit up, it will soon enough become a habit. Keeping that in mind while being attentive to your breathing, ask yourself this question. Did I waste any time on-screen today? Did I waste any of my limited time on this earth doing stuff that was not enjoyable, important or useful in any way? If your answer is no, I would make the argument that reading this text makes you a liar, but then again who am I to make this kind of claim.

If we start to analyze our life on screen we would all find situations where we are engulfed or distracted by stuff that is not really important. We can use tinder swiping as an analogy of sorts. In our everyday life we all have moments were we are swiping through all kind of information more or less automatic without thinking too much about the information we are processing and why we chose left or right. This is as true with Highway hypnosis as it is with Tinder, we are operating on a superficial level with little to none conscious attention on the task at hand and the choices we make. This is in turn made possible by the new technology we are using in our daily life, and the more autonomous an technology becomes, less “brainpower” is needed to operate it. What this all boils down to is the argument that we are becoming a group of mindless zombies incapable of any deep reflections, at all.

This text is dragging on, and I’m not really making any direct references to the reading material or the other subjects this text were supposed to reflect upon. Am I myself becoming a blog zombie-bot with incoherent blabber without any deep reflection on the subject at hand. It would seem so, especially now, at this hour. Let’s wrap this shit up ASAP, so I can get some sleep. No point in making the first text good, then there is no way to go but down.
Let’s end this blog post with life lesson número dos : Never be too good in the beginning, start out low. Everybody likes a underdog who are achieving greatness through hard work and perseverance!
That’s all folks

No wait, there is more..

Yes, that’s true. I just remembered that I had some thoughts about how Rheingold explains alpha waves and attention. In my experience using a Ganglion – Brain Computer Interface to record EEG, high alpha waves is more about synchronization than attention or “letting go”. When Rheingold is describing how he relaxed and let go, he is making sense and this is true-ish, but it would make more sense to explain it in an different way.

At all times our mind is involved in information processing, we are thinking, looking, feeling, tasting.. and so on.. We have an overflow of inputs that our brain are processing on a spectrum of different wavelengths.Even if we are concentrating with good focus, the neurons in our brain are usually calculating different things. The “information capacity” of our brain is high, but with many different conversations occurring between neurons. When we for instance close our eyes our brain goes into a much easier processing pattern and many of the inputs that used to vary are now all saying, it’s dark.

At this point our alpha waves would become “strong” in the sense that we are focused or synchronized around a single though/idea/concept. The other truth is that this synchronization makes the process of recording the EEG signals much easier and here we can use the stadium allegory.

Imagine a stadium during half-time where everyone is having conversations between themselves. If you are outside the stadium, all you hear is a formless hum of noise. There are many interesting things being said (probably), but you can’t detect it outside the stadium.”

“However, imagine when all the participants in the stadium are doing the same thing, such as the singing of a national anthem.* We can certainly hear the song, though distorted, outside the stadium. This is analogous to the slow waves your brain generates while in deep sleep or the alpha waves the visual cortex generates when your eyes are closed.”

“The loudest event we can detect outside the stadium is when a “goal” occurs, as a huge population inside the stadium all scream very loudly at exactly same time. When large populations of neurons in your brain do this (all firing action potentials at the same time), it is called epilepsy, and it is very dangerous.”

“With both the national anthem and the goal events, we can say people in the stadium are very “synchronized” with “low information.” We can observe similar synchrony in the brain, but we do not need to go to sleep ” (Thanks to backyardbrains for the nice illustrations and text)

So It’s not so much the the act of “letting go” that is resulting in the strong alpha waves, as the synchronization of electrical activity over the visual cortex. All that being said, Rheingold’s larger point is valid and when one is entering a state of synchronization ones though are focused towards one idea. How this relates to mindfulness and neurofeedback  is perhaps a subject for a later blog post. Intention is also a big part of brain wave research, more on all this later.

We need to work on the academic, smart, interesting and illuminating sides to this blog!

That’s also true, but enough now!

*Oohh* like you’re the one in charge! Eat this sucka!
